Book and towns
are two symbols and signs of human civilization.
Books are the oldest friend of man and his affectionate
companion which has been notable since early stages
of the formation of several thousand years old human
civilization. Towns were founded following the population
growth and gradual evolution of civilization. Today,
the technology created by the civilized man instead
of further consolidation of man and his amiable friend
, have pare the ground for degeneration of this friendship
and relation.
Uncertainties and problems of the modern and urban
life and emergence of internet are undoubtedly main
factors behind such separation. The alarming consequences
of separation of man and book, has urged the scholars
and the literates in various scientific circles to
take new measures and search for solutions.
The City Publication Institute (afiliated to The
Art and Cultral Organization of Tehran Municipality)
upon the beginning of its activities in 2004 has
devoted its efforts to revitalization of the respectable
status of book among the citizens.
Printing, publication and distribution of suitable
books specially on issues related to urban life,
providing the requirements of the liberaries of Tehran,
promotion of the culture of reading are among the
main objectives for establishment of this institute.
Thd City Publication Institute with its various
departments such as Commercial, Logestics, Public
Relatios and International Affairs and help of activists
and scholars of the cultural and publication sectors
and modern management practices in short period of
time has gained considerable achievements and so
far has left behind a good record in its activities.
The Public Relation Department of the Institute
with 5 sub-divisions namely Graphic, Book, Information,
Public Relations and International Affairs is responsible
for coordination and performance of all these sections.
Holding the meetings of Book Council, for evaluation
of the works submitted by authors and deciding their
publication, providing all the software and hardware
needs of the various sections, establishing contact
with local and foreign publishers in order to organize
various exhibitions, contact with press and media
for refecting the news and developments, preparation
of brochures and design works required by the institute
are all carried out by this Department.
The Commerecial Department consisting of four sections
namely procurement and orders, sales and marketing,
exhibitions and projects and finally shops and subscribers
coordinates and provides guidances and carries out
plannings and conducts executives works for its subordinates
sections.
All works with respect to receiving the orders for
books, marketing, holding of book fairs and plannings
for such activities, meeting the needs of the shops,
performing the proposed projects and procuring the
items required by Shahrvand Chain Stores are some
of the responsibities of this Department.
Publication of suitable books on city dwelling culture
and citizenship, procuring and distributing the required
books among the liberaries and cultural establishment
within Tehran, holding various fairs for offering
books and other cultural products, distribution books
and cultural products within the network of institute's
book stores, encouraging the reading habit among
the public through printed and billboard publicity
and providing wide range of publication services
are some of the major areas of the institute' s activities.
The City Publication Institute in the framework
of its cultural objectives has several programs to
be implemented which among them are furnishing all
libraries of Tehran with their requirements including
public libraries across the Capital, libraries of
schools, universities, seminaries, mosques; expanding
the book stores, distribution and sale of book through
internet via the comprehensive network of urbanbook,
holding book and other cultural products fairs, offering
of books and precious Qurans and launching of the "Book
Garden Project" as the most advanced book store
in the Middle Eeast.
The Three precious Qurans known as Neirizi, Iranian
Mushaf (Holy book) and Hijaz Mushaf have been published
by the Publication Deparment of the Institute.
This institute has also published 12 books in various
educational, cultural, art, citizenship and childern
subjects.
One of the most significant and unique works of
this institute is technical preparations and publication
of 10 million copies of cultural booktels in short
period of time. This cultural package called "a
Slice of Watermelon" and published with assitance
of the Cultural and Art Organization of Tehran Municipality
consists of 10 booklets and brochures on the tourism
in Tehran, educational and sport satires in form
of Caricatures and cultural booklets which were published
and distributed among the Tehranies in September
2006.
Meanwhile, The City Pulication Institute has so
far set up 14 book and other cultural products stores
throughout Tehran and plays an active part in offering
of books and other cultural products in all Shahrvand
Chain Stores.
